PRESPA Institute is an independent policy and foresight institute based in Skopje, North Macedonia. Through research, strategic foresight, data analysis, and public engagement, we help institutions, communities, and citizens understand change, strengthen systems, and enable meaningful participation.
Established in 2019, PRESPA Institute works at the intersection of policy, governance, democracy, security, European integration, and societal transformation. Our work combines analytical rigour with practical relevance, producing knowledge that supports informed decision-making and contributes to resilient, democratic, and future-oriented societies.
PRESPA brings together researchers, practitioners, policy professionals, and external experts from North Macedonia, the Western Balkans, and Europe. Through collaborative research, innovative methodologies, and cross-sector partnerships, we connect long-term thinking with present-day policy challenges.
We believe that societies that better understand change are better equipped to shape it.
VISION – A democratic, secure, and prosperous Southeast Europe, anchored in European and transatlantic cooperation and strengthened by civic participation, evidence-based policy-making, and resilient institutions.
MISSION – Catalyzing foresight-driven transformative change through strategic research, inclusive dialogue, and innovative advocacy that strengthens governance, democracy, security, European integration, and civic participation.
NAME ORIGIN
PRESPA Institute takes its name from the Prespa Accord, signed on 17 June 2018 in Psarades, Greece. The Agreement marked a historic turning point for North Macedonia, opening a path toward Euro-Atlantic integration, regional reconciliation, and democratic consolidation.
Its legacy remains embedded in our mission. For us, Prespa represents more than a diplomatic agreement. It symbolizes the power of dialogue over division, cooperation over confrontation, and long-term vision over short-term politics.
PRESPA is also an acronym that reflects the values and priorities that guide our work:
P – Policy Reforms
R – Regional Cooperation
E – Europeanization
S – Security
P – Participation
A – Adaptation
Together, these principles form the foundation of our work. They guide our commitment to evidence-based policy, democratic resilience, regional cooperation, European integration, civic participation, and strategic adaptation to an increasingly complex world.
PRESPA is more than a name. It is a roadmap for understanding change, strengthening systems, and enabling participation.
For PRESPA Institute, the future is not something to be predicted—it is something to be prepared for and shaped.
